Maisy and Memphis’s Memo
No one will ever be happier to see you when you walk through the front door every day, or listen to you for hours on end without a complaint. There’s no doubt that dogs help contribute to better health. Therapy dogs in particular play a special role in a Nursing Home, helping the elderly function daily and make life easier for them.
Often if the elderly develop dementia, therapy dogs are able to provide support for those in their care mentally and physically.
Dogs have a wonderful way of connecting with people by putting them at ease. Dogs can sense human vocalization and gestures. It’s been shown that people who have difficulty communicating often find it easier to do so with a dog, due to their ability to listen but not respond or criticize.
Therapy dogs also help create human-to-human friendships and social support, both of which are good for long-term health. People with dogs are 60% more likely to meet new people!
